Kid Cudi Signs on to New HBO Show

Kid Cudi recently announced that he will be making his debut on the small screen in a new HBO series called How To Make It In America, produced by the same team as Entourage. It will be co-starring Lake Bell (Boston Legal, What Happens in Vegas) Bryan Greenberg (Bride Wars, One Tree Hill), Victor Rasuk (ER), Eddie Kaye Thomas (American Pie), and Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight's Tale).

The show will be a male-centered comedy, with Cudi's character providing comic relief, which the rapper is very enthused about: "My character's name is Domingo Dean and he's good friends with main characters Ben... and Cam [played by Greenberg and Rasuk, respectively]... My role is def comic relief and then some lol so I'm excited." (KidCudi.com)

Cudi's character is constructed roughly around Cudi's own life, as he later revealed on his blog. "[They] let me name my character since it’s roughly based on me, so I decided to name him after my two older brothers, Domingo Mescudi and Dean Mescudi," he added.

The central plot of How to Make it in America revolves around two men in their twenties hustling through New York, determined to achieve the American dream. Mark Wahlberg is set as executive producer, and will be directed by Julian Farino, who has directed several episodes of Sex and the City, Entourage, and The Sopranos.

Cudi is simultaneously preparing his debut album for its August release. The album features appearances from The Clipse, Common, Kanye West, and Snoop Dogg, with production credits to will.i.am, Kanye West, and Just Blaze (AllHipHop).
