1st American Beatbox Championships & 6th International Human Beatbox Convention

On Friday, July 30th at Littlefield in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn, NY, the 1st American Beatboxing Championships and the 6th International Human Beatbox Convention kick off their opening night with an exclusive U.S. premiere of The Smalls "Street Sounds" short film competition.

“Street Sounds” is a brand new interactive event championing the use of diverse sounds collected by the public in filmmaking. This exclusive screening is part of the weekend long 6th International Human Beatbox Convention (BOXCON 2010) and 1st American Beatboxing Championships featuring LIVE performances, workshops, panel discussions, DJ’s, B-Boys and B-Girls, a youth urban art gallery and performances from Brooklyn grassroots community based Hip Hop after-school program GOSSIP.

An esteemed panel of judges including Monique Frumberg (Director of Branded Entertainment at Sundance Channel), Owen Fegan (Design Director at Wenner Media, overseeing Rolling Stone Magazine), Nima Nourizadeh (award-winning promos and music video director Lily Allen, Flight of the Conchords, Santogold), Valerie Albanese (VP on air promo A&E), Warren Etheredge (founder of The Warren Report), and Steve Elkins (music documentary filmmaker and composer) selected the winning the films.

The film screening on July 30th will be accompanied by special guest performances with esteemed musicians including award winning percussionist Swiss Chris (drummer and long-time music director for 4 time Grammy Winner John Legend), soul singer Stephanie Rooker and guitar virtuoso Ben Tyree, UK beatbox sensation Hobbit, as well as singer songwriter Alyson Greenfield with DJ Reborn on deck!

The 1st American Beatboxing Championships is sponsored in part by Beyond Race Magazine (BRM), NuHotel, Beat Kangz Electronics, and Vocomotion and aims to be the largest beatboxing event ever in the United States. This 3-day event will bring together some of the most jaw dropping awe inspiring vocal performers from across the U.S. to compete for the title of America’s 1st beatboxing champion. Special guest judges include Jarobi White (ATCQ), Swiss Chris, and Kenny Muhammad.
