The Ike Jackson Report: The Laws of Hip-Hop as of 2009 / Part One
As a corporate owner of music and copyrights, I believe that I have a unique perspective on how the entertainment industry affects society and the government. In my world and yours the L-A-W is what keeps you safe. From business procedures to money to property the Law of the United States of America covers just about every citizen behavior so one can have a path with boundaries
(not necessarily straight) of good and bad to proceed on. The core integrity of Hip-Hop will not be compromised on my watch. To assure the continued success and growth of our global market sales we together must effectively police ourselves on all issues causing Hip-Hop financial growing pains. Inspired by Businessman Curtis "50 cent" Jackson's TV show on MTV, I am going to give you some Laws of Hip-Hop so we can get this money. Pay attention.
Law# Two (2) Commercial Hip-Hop is a copy written product that is for sale to the general public creating legal, taxable income and tax benefits (such as depreciation)
Law #Three (3) Underground/Street Hip-Hop is rhymes or Produced tracks that are not copy written, not for sale to the general public and not creating legal taxable income or tax benefits.
Law #Four (4) Age to be in Key public Hip-Hop positions:
9 to 65 / Professional DJ
9 to 25 /MC (unless you have over 100,000 in sales when you started)
14 to 65 /Producer
16 to 75/CEO
16-51/Manager
19-65/Record (Movie, TV) Executive
Law #Five (5) It is better to be dreaded than feared.
Law #Six (6) All artist, producers, managers and CEO's must be paid fairly and one must not worry about other people's money.
Law# Seven (7) If you are not successful as a CEO, manager, producer, filmmaker get out of the game.
Law# Eight (8) You get what you negotiate.
Law # Nine (9) Security, attorney's and bookkeepers must be on the pay role at all times.
Law #Ten (10) A Hip-Hop CEO must develop, empower and pay (extremely well) their captains or they will turn on him. (Feed you wolves or I will)
Law #Eleven (11) the only interest you should share permanently or temporarily with another Hip-Hop participant is the accumulation of money to pay taxes and feed your family.
That is it for now. I will have more laws as we go through 2009 but I will leave you with this again and a quote from one of my favorite thinkers: "It pays to repeat yourself" Winston Churchill.
Until next time this is Ike Jackson and you have just been scolded.
