Kicking off the first weekend of 2009, The Izzys played an energetic late-night set of their unique country, blues-rock,
and soul blend at the Lakeside Lounge down in the East Village. Though the band was in the side room of the bar, they had plenty of presence both sonically and height-wise (lead guitarist Mike
Storey approaches 7-feet tall). Lakeside is a relatively small space, but charmingly cozy, which lends itself to a very casual atmosphere where the musicians are approachable. The night was unusually warm for the beginning of January, and the Izzys also brought on the heat; Aaron Redlin’s bass lines during the cover of Garcia’s “Deal” were particularly raw and hopping. That being said, my only qualm of the evening was the lack of empty floor space to dance. The Izzys perform live at Lakeside Lounge every first Saturday of the month, so be sure to catch them—you’ll definitely add some boogie to your evening.
