The Mumlers - Dont Throw Me Away

If Beirut had a cousin—or perhaps if his cousins formed a band they might be called The Mumlers. “Don’t Throw Me Away”, released September 8, 2009 on Galaxia records is the group’s second LP.

This horny, no not sexually stimulated, acoustic band reminds me of Alabama. Although I’ve never actually visited that great state, lead singer, Andy Paul, puts me in the passenger seat of my future summer road trip. Destined for hometown cooking, ex-lovers and awkward encounters, The Mumlers guide an 11-track journey complete with speeding and near fatal collisions.

The Mumlers deliver both an emotionally and sonically manic performance complemented by a host of instruments, including a ukulele, glockenspiel and autoharp. “Don’t Throw Me Away” may not only be a cry for the top of your CD tower but also lend insight to the feel of the album. Beginning with “Raise The Blinds” and ending with title track, “Don’t Throw Me Away”, this album is either a tearjerker or an eye opener. Regardless, there is something good to be heard in The Mumlers.
